Fuel Fabrication
Reactor fuel generally takes the form of ceramic pellets, made by pressing together uranium dioxide (UO2) in powder form and baking it at high temperature. The pellets are then inserted into metal tubes to form fuel rods, which in turn are collected together in a fuel assembly. A group of these fuel assemblies are placed together in the reactor to form the reactor core.
