About Daya Bay
Daya Bay makes use of French reactor technology and British turbine-generator equipment, providing an installed capacity of 1,968 MW. Since the beginning of commercial operation in 1994, it has been generating typically over 14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year. 70% of the electricity is supplied to Hong Kong and the balance to Guangdong province.

In order to secure additional clean and cost-competitive energy for Hong Kong, Daya Bay has increased its electricity supply to Hong Kong from 70% to around 80% of its output for late-2014 to 2023. Currently, nuclear import from Daya Bay meets about 25% of Hong Kong's electricity needs.

The electricity produced by Daya Bay saves Hong Kong each year some 7.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide, some ten thousands tonnes of sulphur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides, as well as hundreds of tonnes of airborne particulates that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere by fossil fuel generation.
