GNPS is located at Da Keng, on the coast of Daya Bay in Guangdong Province, China. It is about 45 km from the city centre of Shenzhen, and about 50 km from Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
In fact, most nuclear power stations in other parts of the world are located some 30 km to 50 km from city centres.
The site was chosen after careful analysis of the detailed studies on the seismological and geological conditions, water cooling sources, power grid interconnection and environmental impact.
United States nuclear regulations specify that there should be no capable faults within 8 km of a nuclear power station. In the case of Daya Bay, there is no capable fault within 20 km. A capable fault is the dividing line between two land masses which had at least one significant activity in the last 35,000 years, or several significant activities in the last 500,000 years.
